This week, we caught up with a couple of our lovely residents, Stella & Barry Swanton, and had a chat with them about what it’s like living on Otter Valley Park, as well as how they’ve been coping with things this year!
Hi! Please introduce yourself to our readers…
Hi everyone, we are Barry and Stella Swanton. We moved here [to Otter Valley Park] from North Hertfordshire in September 2019.
How long have you been living here at Otter Valley?
We have lived here very happily for 15 months.
What first drew you to Otter Valley Park?
It’s central location and also the feeling of being in the middle of the countryside, and also the size of the park, which feels like a small community, rather than some of the very large parks that we looked at in our search for a new home.
What would you say is the best part about Residential Park Living for you?
The main fact of being in a small community with everyone looking for the similar lifestyle that this park offers. Although it has been a strange year because of the Covid-19 restrictions, but even with those in place we have made many new friends with our neighbours.
Would you recommend it to others?
This is a lifestyle which may not suit some people, but we would happily recommend it to others.
What do you prefer about living in a park home, in comparison to Bricks & Mortar?
Again as we have said, because of the park homes being on a smaller scale area, you feel more of a community here than living on larger estates. Having lived in both types of building, we really don’t notice much difference!
Tell us a bit about your experience, from designing your home, to moving in?
It was all quite straight forward and very enjoyable. This was mainly due to Jess from Oak Tree Parks and Kelly from Timberventure, [the home manufacturer], easing us through the process. We were kept up to date every step of the way and invited to see the building in process at various stages. Even when the home was put on site, we were invited to see the completion taking place. The moving in went like clockwork as well, everything set up ready to open the door and move in.
What’s your favourite part about living in Honiton?
It’s central location and local amenities mainly, but also the fact that compared to where we used to live, everything in life runs at a much slower and easier pace.
If you had a day out in Devon (post Covid!), where would you go and why?
There are too many beautiful places to just pick one! So we are going to be greedy and try and visit them all.
How have you been coping with the pandemic?
We are very lucky that we both have quite a lot of hobbies and pastimes, so even though life is a bit strange at the moment we are coping quite well. We have also been very busy setting up our new garden!
Is there anything you’d recommend to people who are thinking about moving to a Residential Park?
Think hard, research, research, research and GO FOR IT!
